However, it is difficult to diagnose this disorder because it is difficult to confirm with X-rays or other methods. Some of the probable causes of this disorder include the influence of toxic substances, infections, overexertion, obesity and gout.

If you are suffering from pain in the area of the thorax and there is not a cause that can be determined, everything points to intercostal neuralgia. Possible methods of treatment are heat applications and pain relief therapy.

TENS therapy offers the possibility of reducing the pain without using drugs. The application of stimulating electric pulses alleviates pain and can easily be applied through electrodes placed on the area of the body that needs the treatment. TENS helps in three different ways: the electric pulses overlap the intercostal neuralgia pain information; TENS is able to close the 'gates' along the path of the pain information so that it does not reach the brain; TENS stimulates the distribution of happiness hormones, which have a pain reducing effect.

TENS is a scientifically approved method that you can apply by yourself with little effort. There are special TENS devices and electrodes available for the treatment.
