Vulvodynia, which literally means vulva pain, is a condition that involves chronic pain in the vulva. It is a relatively frequently occurring problem that has considerable consequences for the physical wellbeing of the affected women. A characteristic symptom of vulvodynia is that there is (severe) pain but with no neurological or anatomical abnormalities of the vulva. It is estimated that approximately 2% of women over 18 years old suffer from chronic vulvodynia. Doctors can distinguish several different forms of vulvodynia, within its general definition.
The treatment of vulvodynia is often not a simple matter and it is very important there is good consultation between you and your gynaecologist, sexologist and possibly dermatologist. Results obtained through the use of medicines has been reported in the literature. Localised treatment with a special cream is also possible.

Physiotherapy is often beneficial, with part of the therapy being the relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. The Feminaform is used to help practice relaxing the pelvic floor muscles.
