Nerve Pains, Neuralgia, Polyneuropathies

The nervous system plays an important role in our body. Thanks to the nerves, we have self-awareness and are able to move, as well as perceive stimuli.

Even the pain information that is transmitted through nerves in fact fulfills an important alert function. A variety of pain receptors are distributed throughout the body, which respond to different stimuli. The pain information then continues to pass into the central nervous system and the brain via the nerve fibers and conductors. If a nerve itself is attacked, it manifests in the form of a distinctive pain that many may know from a dental treatment. Specifically occurring chronic nerve pains can for example be caused by a slipped disc, certain surgeries, a spinal cord injury and even alcohol abuse. Diabetes mellitus in an advanced stage can lead to a damaging of the nervous system. In neuralgia, a metabolic disorder underlies the nerve disease. If many nerves outside the central nervous system are affected, it is referred to as polyneuropathy. Due to their nature and intensity, nerve pains can significantly restrict the freedom of movement of those affected. It is advisable to begin with pain relief in order to avoid damages resulting from this, such as muscle weakness or muscle atrophy and incorrect postures or joint stiffness - especially if it is chronic nerve pain. The TENS-therapy is well-suited for this - a non-drug method of nerve stimulation.
