Tennis elbow, golfers arm

What is commonly referred to as 'Tennis elbow' or 'Golfer Arm' is not exclusive to athletes. Even working women and men between the age of 35 and 50 may be affected.

Tennis elbow is felt in the form of pain on the outside of the elbow, right below where the elbow bends. This pain can be felt all the way up to the hand. In the initial phase, the pain is only felt under load. Later, it is even felt if there is no load. A clear indication of tennis elbow is given if a poking or pulling pain is felt when attempting to press the affected hand against a surface with the palm facing upwards. Some feel a feeling of weakness in the hand and can't grab properly. The pain can be quite strong, and the arm thus severely restricted in its ability. Specifically, it is an inflammation in the tendons of the forearm extensor muscles. Furthermore, an inflammation or an overuse of the hand and finger flexors, or a strong muscular tension may also be the cause of golfer's arm. Relieving this pain doesn't always involve a trip to the medicine cabinet. Nowadays there are recognized alternatives such as the TENS therapy, which offer pain-relieving effects without pharmaceuticals. In this way, acute pain can usually be remedied after just a few sessions.
