Which Light Therapy Lamp Shall I Buy?

Light therapy has been proven as an effective form of therapy to cure seasonal depression. To find out which lamp is best suited for your needs, you can look at the performance, the size and the shape of the light therapy device.

The lack of sunlight that our body suffers in long winter months, together with its consequences, such as problems with concentration, fatigue, lethargy, increased appetite or even depression, has been recognized as a serious problem. For this so-called SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), light therapy has been proven as an effective form of therapy. Especially manufacturers in the northern European countries produce numerous light therapy devices. In those countries, the lack of light during winter is particularly evident, and leads to a big demand for quality, high performance equipment. Thus it is not surprising that the Valkee - one of the light therapy devices with a peculiar form and way of application - comes directly from Finland. It is a portable light therapy device that resembles an mp3 player and offers light therapy by channeling safe bright light directly to photosensitive regions of the brain through the ear canal.
Classic light therapy lamps, however, are intended for home use. They send light that has the quality and strength of daylight over the eyes to the brain. You can either put the light therapy lamp on a table or hang it on the wall. When choosing the light therapy device make sure you understand how close or far you need to be from the lamp in order to achieve the required effect. Depending on the kind of activity you want to do during the treatment, you will need a stronger or weaker lamp. The stronger the light, the more watts are required and the farther away you can sit from the lamp. On the other hand, you can shorten the treatment time by sitting closer to the unit. Clinics and light therapy centers are places where particularly large light therapy lamps such as those from Davita, are of interest. The advantage of these lamps is that several people can be treated simultaneously.

A Simply Practical Lamp or One With A Great Design?

Light therapy lamps usually have an attractive, simple design that fits well into any home. The Beurer TL 40 is for example, a nice looking light therapy lamp at a very competitive price level. Slightly more expensive, but equipped with more powerful lamps is the Happy Life Phototherapy unit, where you can sit further away from the lamp or shorten the duration of treatment. If you wish to use the light therapy lamp as a normal living room lamp and don't have a problem investing a little bit more for a particular design, you may find your favorite lamp among the Innosol light therapy lamps. These lamps convince by performance, design, functionality and quality. The Davita company not only offers large sized light therapy lamps, but also smaller, high quality designs with which you can maintain a comfortable therapy distance. If flexibility and portability is an important aspect, there is also the Caremaxx Lite Pad, which offers only 5000 lux, but is very well suited to take it to the office or with you while traveling.
